Germantown Academy Summer CampGermantown Academy Summer Camp

The following camps are half-day and transition to Day Camp at 11:30am

Design Technology Jr.

Explore principles of design while stretching creativity and problem-solving skills! Using LEGOs and K'NEX, campers build bridges and vehicles while examining the science of flight and solar energy. After Design Technology, campers continue to Day Camp to complete their day.

Grades: 1-3
Dates: July 13-17
Time: 9am - 3:30pm
Fee: $450

Design Technology Sr.

In this fun and engaging hands-on workshop, young engineers learn about the principles of structures by building projects from LEGO and K'NEX kits. Students use their creativity to design and build original marble runs and Rube Goldberg-style contraptions using recycled materials. At the end of the week, the projects will be combined for an exciting collaborative marble run project. After Design Technology, campers continue on to Day Camp to complete their day.

Grades: 4-5
Dates: July 20-24
Time: 9am - 3:30pm
Fee: $450

Forensics Academy

Put that curious mind to task by becoming a detective! Campers in Detective Academy evaluate the "crime scene," then conduct forensics tests on the evidence, analyze the results, and try to solve the mystery. The activities include fiber tests, powder tests, DNA comparison, chromatography, and fingerprinting. After Forensics Academy, campers continue on to Day Camp to complete their day.

Grades: 3-6
Dates:July 13-17
Time: 9am - 3:30pm
Fee: $450

Gene Smashers

The Biotechnology Revolution is here! Join us to investigate how to unlock and use nature's tool box. Hands on activities with special lab equipment will be used to conduct biotechnology activities like gel electrophoresis, DNA profiling, fermentation, and epidemiology. Come and join the revolution! After Gene Smashers, campers continue on to Day Camp to complete their day.

Grades: 4-6
Dates: July 6-10
Time: 9am - 3:30pm
Fee: $450

Magnets and Motors

Using a series of hands-on experiments, campers investigate the properties of magnets and electric currents. Campers observe the interaction of permanent magnets with a variety of common materials, discover and measure magnetic forces of attraction and repulsion, and make a compass. Then, campers construct circuits, learn how to make an electromagnet, test the magnet's strength and make a telegraph. Finally, campers will construct and operate electric motors and produce electricity with a generator to light a bulb. After Magnets and Motors, campers continue on to Day Camp to complete their day.

Grades: 1-3
Dates: July 13-17
Time: 9am - 3:30pm
Fee: $450

Ready, Make, Charge!

Become a "maker!" Do fun DIY electronic projects that are creative and artistic. Make paper, playdough, and sewable circuits. Build bristle bots, noodle bots, scribbling machines, and more. After Ready, Make, Charge, campers continue on to Day Camp to complete their day.

Measuring Time

Campers will spend time learning about the history of time telling and demonstrate how primitive and modern methods worked. Campers will participate in using some of these methods. These will include sundials, time sticks, knotting ropes and hourglasses. The week will culminate with the campers creating a water clock that sinks within a predetermined amount of time.
