Young Alumni Discuss College with the GA Community

Germantown Academy's Office of College Counseling hosted its annual College Panel to kick off the new year. Juniors and seniors attended a panel during Community Time and parents attended one in the evening where young alumni discussed their college search, transition to college, and current college life. Students represented a range of colleges from small liberal arts colleges to major research universities, as well as more specialized colleges such as the Naval Academy, Maryland Institute College of Art, and Lincoln University, an Historically Black College. Panelists focused on the importance of researching and visiting college communities, of getting involved the moment the student steps on campus, and of managing time effectively.

"Each year I’m impressed with the poise of our graduates and how they have internalized lessons learned at GA and applied them in college - they seek out their professors, build relationships with them and find mentors; they write papers with confidence, and they effectively manage their time to stay on top of their workload. It’s gratifying to hear how they continue to build on these skills for successful college careers.”
