There is snow in the forecast - WHAT?? Don't fear, we have a plan for that.

GA's Inclement Weather Procedures

The decision to delay or cancel school is usually made prior to 5:45am. Major TV stations will report school closings/delays:

  • CBS3
  • NBC10
  • Fox29
  • 6ABC

An email will be sent notifying parents and faculty/staff of any cancellations or delays. The front page of the GA website will have an announcement, and all of GA's social media accounts - Facebook, Twitter and Instagram - will also be updated.

Once the school day begins, we DO NOT close for weather. If surrounding school districts decide to close early, they will send their buses to GA's campus and students who normally ride the bus will be allowed to leave at that time. Parents may come at any point to sign out their children. Until all students are dismissed, students who drive to school will only be permitted to leave if a parent calls the school. There will always be a faculty or staff member on campus until the last student has been picked up. When the first school district contacts GA to say they will be picking up students early, an email will be sent to parents notifying them to begin watching the website for more early dismissals. The website will be updated frequently so parents can stay informed throughout the day. Students may ONLY be dismissed to people listed on their contingency cards - parents should check in with their division office if they need a reminder of who is listed. CHILDCARE Families should look for an email from Tanya Friedman for early dismissal procedures.

PLEASE NOTE: On days when school is delayed or cancelled due to inclement weather, we will NOT use the phone system to alert parents. The website will be updated, an email will be sent, and the television and radio stations will be alerted. Germantown Academy tries to make the decision as early as possible on the morning of inclement weather. There are more than 90 communities that we draw students from, so even if it is not snowing or hailing in your area, it may be doing so closer to school, or farther from school. We hear from multiple school districts as to what their plans are so we know how many students may be affected with changes in travel plans if busing is cancelled or delayed.

Decisions on after school activities are usually made by 1pm. The website will be updated as sports or other after school events are cancelled or postponed. The athletics schedule is updated as soon as we receive information from other schools.
