Sixth Grade Art + Meals on Wheels & MONTCO SAAC

Germantown Academy 6th Grade art students are bringing the GA mission to life this holiday season! Led by Middle School Art Department Chair Liz Buckman, students will be visiting the Senior Adult Activities Center (SAAC) with their Art class over the course of the year. Students began this project earlier this month by interviewing Trisha Vogel from MONTCO Meals on Wheels, learning more about the program which is run out of the SAAC. Then, all students created 252 placemats to be handed out with Thanksgiving meals.

Not only did students continue to learn about the printmaking process (which is a cornerstone of the 6th Grade art curriculum), they also explored the 6th Grade guiding compass question of connecting the act of making something for someone else to the greater community around them.

“You’re bringing someone else joy. Seniors have given so much to the community and this is a chance to let them know that their community cares about them.”
