Robotics Club Excels at GA

“I love to build things!” “It’s so much fun!” “I like hanging out with my friends!” “YES! We did it!” were just some of the comments that were heard during GA’s Middle School Robotics club. The carefully controlled chaos was heard in both the science lab and Beard Center for Innovation (BCI).

Students who participate in Robotics find it fun because they can create a world that they design for themselves. STEM experiences provide a large foundation that includes computer science, engineering, and design. According to a 2021 report from the National Science Foundation, “STEM careers are projected to grow twice as fast as all other professions over the next 10 years. And the problem-solving, critical thinking, and creativity skills taught in STEM programs will benefit students on any academic and professional path.” Not to mention, in addition to learning, students form friendships and learn how to collaborate with each other.

Robotics students start with a shared mission, but the rest is up to them. As Lucas H. ’30 said, “I like building things with ideas that come from my head, and I like building with LegosTM”. Students perform certain tasks like picking up objects and going through a maze. The JV team was able to do it 5 out of 5 times during one of their gatherings!

Once the teams perfect their creations, they participate in competitions. Head of Middle School Jonas Jeswald said, “It has been great to watch our Robotics program blossom over the past several years from a Friday afternoon club to hosting two different teams. I’m looking forward to the upcoming competitions and seeing what our students can do!”
