Private Music Teacher Bryn Coveney Performs in Nutcracker

Germantown Academy French horn and trumpet teacher Bryn Coveney has been performing in “The Nutcracker” with the Philadelphia Ballet (formerly the Pennsylvania Ballet). Coveney frequently accompanies the beautiful ballet in the orchestra pit on the French horn. She has also been an active freelance musician in the Philadelphia and New York City regions for the past 10 years and has been a substitute musician with the Philadelphia Ballet since 2017.

“It’s so wonderful to be able to share my performances with my students at Germantown Academy. There are so many exciting places studying music can take you, and I’m grateful to demonstrate how their hard work in the practice room can pay off,” said Coveney. “I’ve been very fortunate to perform with many of the major ensembles in Philadelphia. I love being able to show my students how the skills they learn now can come together to perform at a higher level in the future. It is a rewarding experience for me, as well as for them!”

This season, Coveney also had the opportunity to meet up with one of her students, Zoe M. ’31, who attended the performance with her family. She particularly enjoyed the moment Mother Ginger came on stage with her many children underneath her giant hoopskirt dress. Zoe also loved all the events that happened in Clara’s dream in the Land of Snow. It was a perfect holiday tradition made even more special by knowing that her teacher helped to make it happen.
