Patriots Win School State Championship!

Germantown Academy's Upper School Chess Team won the School State Championship in the U1300 division at the 2020 Pennsylvania State Scholastic Chess Championships, which was held in Gettysburg on March 7 and 8. GA's success in the U1300 division was based on the scores posted by Terence Huang '20, Zach Thurlow '20, Dillon Agrawal '21, and Collin McDonald '21. Individually, McDonald won the State Championship in the U1300 Division with a perfect 5-0 record.

UNRATED DIVISION:

  • Zach Coren ’20 placed 8th in the Unrated Division

U1300 DIVISION:

  • Zach Thurlow ’20 placed 9th
  • Dillon Agrawal ’21 placed 6th
  • Collin McDonald ’21 won the State Championship with a perfect 5-0 record.

Nick Bekos '20, Adam Georgopoulos '21, Viyon Houessou-Adin '21, Teg Ritchie '21, and Damon Sun ’23 also competed in the weekend event.

"I’m really proud of how the players worked hard and supported each other this season, and it was great to see them enjoy some success during the regular season and at States," said GA Chess Club Advisor Jason Straub.
