On Wednesday, April 10, 2019, Germantown Academy senior Olivia Negro '19 was named the Student of the Month by the Rotary Club of Ambler. Negro was nominated by Upper School Community Service Organization co-advisors and Spanish teachers Yvette Marquez-Pribitkin and Carlos Chubb for her incredible work in the classroom, with CSO and other clubs at GA, and away from school.
At GA, Mr. Chubb noted that Negro is enrolled in a number of Advanced Placement and honors classes “where her grades and comments follow a predictable upward curve that reflects her remarkable drive and determination.” She recently completed her Academy Scholars’ project, an engaging six-episode podcast designed to introduce middle school students to topics ranging from the US-China trade relations to the triumphs and travails of Elon Musk. Away from the classroom, Negro regularly volunteers with CSO, serves as a highly effective senator in the Student Government Association, applies historical skills and understanding as a member of the Model UN Club, plays water polo (was named a captain this past fall), and sings with the Singing Patriots. Last spring, Negro also helped plan and lead a school-wide walkout honoring the victims of the 2018 shooting of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. She studied abroad in London as a freshman and in Seville, Spain as a sophomore.
