Senior Katherine Commale '19, a spokesperson for Nothing But Nets, a campaign of the United Nations Foundation that raises awareness and funds to combat malaria, was invited to speak at the United Nations Foundation's Global Leadership Dinner, which took place on October 10 at Gotham Hall in New York City. Commale, along with her brother, Joe '21, and mom, Lynda, also toured the UN headquarters and participated in the Nothing But Nets strategic thinking forum.
The annual UN Foundation Global Leadership Dinner is widely recognized as a signature event for the UN community and its partners, bringing together hundreds of leaders with deep insight and perspectives on the UN's highest priorities, and creating an opportunity for participants to celebrate and forge new partnerships for significant impact. This high-level convening is a unique opportunity each year to forge new connections between world and UN leaders, corporate leaders, and innovators in one room. Past honorees include Malala Yousafzai, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon, Oprah Winfrey, Angelina Jolie, President Barack Obama, and Queen Rania Al-Abdullah.
In June, Commale '19 received the Global Charity Ambassador Award from Chen Chien-jen, Vice President of Taiwan, for her incredible work in raising awareness about malaria as well as funds that are used to purchase life-saving nets.
