John Stipa Celebrates 25 Years at GA

Congratulations to John Stipa on 25 years at GA! Stipa loves being a part of GA’s security team as well as a member of the larger GA community. In celebration of his years spent here, we asked him a few questions about himself.

Q. What is your role here at GA?
A.  My official title is Security Supervisor, and I am fortunate to supervise a great group of people. I look after the safety and well-being of everyone on campus. We care for the whole GA world from the kids and staff at the Child Care Center through Upper School.

Q. Why have you stayed for so long?
A. I stayed at GA for the students and because I work with good people. A good leader surrounds himself with good people. There’s nothing but good people here.

Q: What has been your best experience here?
A. I’ve been lucky to have two great bosses, Steve Dolan and Greg Keenan. I like their mindset which comes from a law enforcement background. Working with Director of Facilities Dan Houston, who we all report to, is great as well.

Q. What is one of your favorite things at GA?
A. My favorite part of my job is arrival. Saying hello to everyone in the morning is a daily treat. I also love the Parents’ Committee cookie exchange every December. Not only because I get lots of cookies, but I get to see everyone. The CSO Holiday Program is also great, being able to see everyone come together for a good cause. It always makes me think of Pete (McVeigh 1760). He really taught me compassion.

Q: What is something you are interested in that is not GA related?
A. Mummers, gardening, and painting. I got involved with the Mummers when my daughter was marching. When I saw that you could take Gatorade bottles and flutes and turn them into a Terminator costume, I was hooked. My club is the South Philly Vikings (Fancy Brigade) and my daughter and I have had so much fun.
