Acclaimed actor Jarrod Spector '99 has recently joined the cast of Hamilton as King George. Spector took over the role from Euan Morton, who had his final performance on September 10 at the Richard Rodgers Theatre.
Spector garnered rave reviews for his past portrayal of Barry Mann in Beautiful — The Carole King Musical, a performance that earned him a Tony nomination. He also showcased his talent in other notable Broadway productions, including The Cher Show, Jersey Boys, and Les Misérables.
Spector had some concept of Hamilton's greatness when he saw the show at The Public Theater in 2015, but getting to see and hear it up close every day was an opportunity to truly understand the depth of its genius. He states "Layer upon layer of lyrics, music, movement, design--every element was built and has been maintained with such care. It's not just one of the greatest musicals ever written, but it has to be considered one of the great pieces of art, period. They have a program called EduHam, a cooperative with The Rockefeller Foundation and the Gilder Lerhman Institute of American History, which helps to fill the theater with students for select matinees during the school year, and when 1,300 teenagers are screaming at the tops of their lungs for a Broadway show, you start to get an idea of how special, how far-reaching, ubiquitous, and ground-breaking the show is. It would be an honor to be any part of it; that I get to play this wonderfully funny change of pace "villain" that the audience loves before I even step foot onstage is just a bonus."
