Germantown Academy's 8th Grade Day Off Campus Offers Hands-On Professional Experiences

Day Off Campus is a day where our 8th Grade students have the opportunity to shadow a professional in an area of their choice. This annual experience allows them to see firsthand what it means to be a working professional and connects with their goals around how to engage in their community outside of GA.

“Each student found a sponsor, at a location of their choice, and spent the day based on an interest or passion,” said program director Joanna Rominger. “We suggested that each student pick an independent location from their classmates, to be sure that they can get the most out of the experience. It was a great day all around!”

Pictured here are some examples of what the Class of 2029 did during their Day Off include Jackson J. and Ben V. at 94.1 WIP Radio, Divya P. at Amazon Web Services in NYC, Braelyn B. at Anapol Weis Law Firm, Kiera S. at Central Bucks Veterinary Hospital, and Sebastian P. at 6abc.

Additional locations where students spent their day included: Harth Builders (construction and design), University of Pennsylvania (research with PhD students at GRASP Laboratory – a robotics lab), Philadelphia Union, Penn State Football (marketing and behind the scenes of the program), Real Estate—Local and NYC, Interior Design, Civil Engineering & Surveying (Carl E. Shoemaker, Inc), Law Firms, Comcast Home Office in Philadelphia, Villanova (sports/athletics marketing), Fab Speed, Car Dealerships, 97.5 The Fanatic, Architecture firms, Einstein Medical Center, and more!
