Germantown Academy Hosts 36th Annual CSO Holiday Program

For over two decades, GA has taken the funds many schools spend on holiday cards and instead entrusted them to student leaders of Lower School, Middle School, and Upper School CSO to select nonprofit organizations that enrich our region through vital support of those in need. Through this process, students gain experience being both independent in thoughtand compassionate in spirit as they explore different charities, learn about charity ratings, and decide where GA’s gifts will make the greatest impact. This year, students selected Whosoever Gospel Mission (LS), Family Promise of Philadelphia (MS), and Chosen 300 Ministries (US). We are proud of our Patriots for embracing a spirit of philanthropy and engaging in transcendent acts of kindness to others.

Coordinated by faculty advisors Anthony Commale and Bob Moyer 1760, the CSO senior leaders Jake McVeigh, Elsa Simonetti, Cece Fikioris, Elli Wang, Emma Shapiro, Ava Dalton, Brynn Sweeney, and Giah Sharf served as speakers at the event and introduced the work done by each of the charities. They were assisted by many other CSO “elves.”

The program also featured performances by the Upper School 1759 Singers, the 6th Grade Junior Chorus, and the Upper School Jazz Band, along with a delightful previously recorded video featuring members of the Middle and Upper School CSO's highlighting their favorite memories and projects. The CSO Holiday Program would not be complete without a sled race, which saw the Class of 2027 claim victory over the other grades to win a dress-down day

The Holiday Program serves as a touchstone that not only signals winter break is near, but reminds us of what’s important—caring, generosity and kindness.
