Once again, bassoonist Garrett Comrie '20 landed a seat in the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA) All-State Orchestra! Comrie accomplished this his sophomore year as well, and was competitive in his junior year. The PMEA groups are among some of the finest youth ensembles for orchestra, wind band, and jazz band in the state.
All students (grades 10-12) in the Honors Symphonic Band at Germantown Academy take the District 11 audition every December. District 11 is among the most competitive in the state and includes nearly 700 high school aged student musicians from public and private schools in Bucks and Montgomery County. If students score high enough at the audition they are selected to participate in the District 11 Ensemble, then can re-audition for Regions, and re-audition for All-State Orchestra if they make it that far! Each ensemble has a three day festival packed with rehearsals run by some of the best collegiate conductors in the country.
Comrie was not alone though! Also making it to the impressive District Level was percussionist Alex Badami '22 and alto saxophonist Kenny Gong '20. Taking it one step further to the Region Band Level was percussionist Justin Weiss ('21).
Some fun facts from this year:
- Alex Badami '22 placed FIRST on snare drum for District Band!
- Justin Weiss '21 went all the way to Region Band for the second year in a row!
- Kenny Gong '20 set a GA record as the first saxophonist from GA to make Districts three years in a row!
- Garrett Comrie also makes GA history as the first bassoonist to win a PMEA ensemble placements for three consecutive years!
Congratulations to all!
