GA Honors Top Scorers of American Mathematics Competitions

On March 18, 2019, Upper School Mathematics Department Chair Jason Straub announced the top Germantown Academy scorers of the American Mathematics Competitions (AMC).

In early February, almost 100 Upper School students took the AMC 10 or the AMC 12. The AMC 10 and AMC 12 are 25-question, 75-minute, multiple-choice examinations in high school mathematics, organized by the Mathematical Association of America (MAA), that are designed to promote the development and enhancement of problem-solving skills. The AMC 10 is for students in 10th grade and below, and covers the high school curriculum up to 10th grade. The AMC 12 covers the entire high school curriculum, including trigonometry, advanced algebra, and advanced geometry, but excluding calculus.

The top three scorers at GA on the AMC 10 and on the AMC 12 earned recognition from the Mathematical Association of America. The AMC 12 top scorers at GA are Ethan Cody ’19 (missing from photo), Justin Weiss ’21, and Anthony Hu ’20 (missing from photo). The AMC 10 top scorers at GA are Kevin Cui ’21, Alex Cai ’22, Marin Higgins ’23. Kevin also earned a Certificate of Distinction from the MAA for his score on the AMC 10. Well done, Patriots!
