Celebrating GA's Outdoor Spaces

Presented by the Nature Program and Parents' Preserve Day Committee, Germantown Academy celebrated its 126 acres of amazing during the 6th annual Preserve Day on October 12. More than 200 community members came out to enjoy activities in areas all over the campus including a campfire with s'mores in the Binswanger Outdoor Classroom, face painting with student artists, guided bird watching along the Wissahickon Creek, beeswax candle making on the Green Roof Apiary, chips and home-grown salsa in the Academic Courtyard, free play in the Lower School Nature Nook, Rain barrel painting with Art Across the Academy, and zip line rides across the Creek.

New this year was the Preserve Day 5K prior to the formal Preserve Day festivities. Seventy people signed up to run the varsity cross country course, the ½ mile Family fun Run, or cheer on the participants during the newest Parents’ Committee event. The weather was perfect, two of the three winners of the 5K were sixth grade students (Benjamin M. and Ethan N.), and water ice was the perfect end to a great morning.
