Award-Winning Author Joanna Ho Visits Germantown Academy

Award-winning author Joanna Ho visited GA on Tuesday, April 28, sharing her stories and experiences with students across all divisions.

Ho is the New York Times bestselling author of "Eyes That Kiss in the Corners," the acclaimed children’s book celebrating self-acceptance, family, and Asian identity. The book became a national bestseller and earned numerous honors, including the Golden Kite Award. She is also the author of "Eyes That Speak to the Stars," "Playing at the Border: A Story of Yo-Yo Ma," "Say My Name," and the young adult novel "The Silence That Binds Us," which received an Asian/Pacific American Award for Literature honor.

In addition to her work as an author, Ho has served as an English teacher, dean, and high school administrator. Her writing and educational work focus on equity, inclusion, and helping young people see themselves reflected in books and stories.

During her visit, Ho presented to Lower School students and sixth graders, discussing the importance of storytelling, identity, and representation in literature. She also spent time with both the Upper School Asian American Affinity Group and the Lower School Asian American Affinity Group, creating opportunities for conversation and connection around culture, belonging, and personal experiences.
