Alumni Update: Walker Schwartz '23 Helps Lead Cornell to First NCAA Lacrosse Title Since 1977

FORT WASHINGTON – The top-ranked Cornell University men’s lacrosse team defeated No. 2 seed Maryland, 13-10, on Monday afternoon at Gillette Stadium to claim the program's fourth NCAA title and first since 1977. Among those helping break the 48-year drought for the Big Red was Walker Schwartz ’23, a sophomore long-stick midfielder.

After seeing action in only one game as a freshman, Schwartz enjoyed a breakout second season, appearing in every contest. He recorded 17 ground balls and caused six turnovers. He also scored goals in both games against Yale University and added another against the University of Richmond.

Schwartz is just the second Germantown Academy boys lacrosse alumnus to play for and win a national championship, joining Kurt Mueller ’93. While at GA, Schwartz was the 2023 Philly Lacrosse Co-Player of the Year, a three-time Inter-Ac All-League selection, a two-time all-state selection, and a two-time US Lacrosse All-American.
