"Almost, Maine" Tech Crew is the Show's Foundation

We are excited that the Belfry production of Almost, Maine will be here in only one week! Everything is coming together from the actors to the costume designs to the lighting to the sound. While it is important that everyone remembers their lines and when to go on stage, it can also be said that the foundation of every production is the Technical Crew.

Below is a spotlight on Almost, Maine’s crew who work with strength, creativity, and technological know-how throughout every rehearsal and the final production. Giving us a peek into their world is Anastasia (Ana) Miller ’26, Jayden (JJ) Johnson ’26, Elias Chernoff ’25, and their mentor and leader, Performing Arts Co-Department Chair Paul Moffitt.

Ana Miller (Set Designer)

“As set designer, I love seeing the show from start to finish. I was here this summer before school began to have a set design meeting and I can’t wait to be up on stage bowing on closing night (Ana also plays a role in the show), which is truly special. It’s amazing being the first domino—you can't build the stage or program lights until the set is there and even that can't happen until it's designed. It’s been great getting to work with Paul as a mentor and see the process straight through.”

Elias Chernoff (Lighting Designer)

“I love coming up with different ways to light up the set. I get to illuminate the actors, give them their moment, and find ways to capture the feeling of the scene. My favorite part of working on the show would just be having free reign. As the lighting designer you get to have so much freedom and creativity.”

JJ Johnson (Stage Manager)

“Being the stage manager with Almost, Maine has been fun, and a little easier than a regular production, because it’s an ensemble play where all roles are equal in size and there are no leads. Some of the actors involved even move items on and off the stage! I love being Stage Manager. It's amazing seeing all the actors come from barely knowing their lines to, with the help of Mr. Gibbons, putting on a full show.”

Paul Moffitt (Production Manager and Technical Director)

“I’m excited to be working on Almost, Maine this year! The tech crew is great, especially the seniors - Elias, who designed all of the lighting, and Arjun, who is draftsman and assistant technical director. I have to also mention Ana Miller who did such a fantastic job designing the entire set from a drawing to final product, as well as everyone who helped weld, paint, and build it. This production is one of the most unique versions of Almost, Maine I've ever seen and it’s incredible.”
