Volleyball: Germantown Academy Wins Third Inter-Ac Title in Four Seasons

FORT WASHINGTON -- It wasn’t the smoothest start, but Germantown Academy's volleyball team showed once again why it is one of the premier programs in the Inter-Ac League. The Patriots battled through early adversity and a competitive schedule to finish as co-champions, sharing the 2025 Inter-Ac title in a three-way tie with Academy of Notre Dame and Springside Chestnut Hill Academy.

The championship marks GA’s third league crown in the past four seasons under head coach Chuck Dougherty, who is in his fifth year leading the program.

The Patriots finished the season 16-7-2 overall and 6-2 in league play, rallying from a 0-2 league start to win their final six Inter-Ac matches. After opening league play with losses to Notre Dame (3-2) and SCH (3-0), GA regrouped and surged through the back half of the schedule, defeating both teams in decisive rematches to stay in title contention. The Patriots then got the help they needed when Notre Dame and SCH split their season series, sealing the three-way championship.

Pilar Presson ’26 led the offense with 292 kills, while Emily Pokorny ’26 added 246 kills and a team-high 55 aces. Nicole Ward ’26 directed the attack with 596 assists and contributed 212 digs, while Abby Traina ’26 anchored the defense with 198 digs. Kat Kou ’26 bolstered the front line with 28 blocks.

With the regular season officially over, the Patriots now turn their focus toward the Pennsylvania Independent Schools Athletic Association Tournament, which is scheduled to begin on Friday, Oct. 24.
