Track & Field: GA Excels at Penn Relays with Record-Breaking Performances

PHILADELPHIA — Thousands of athletes from around the world competed under ideal conditions at the Penn Relays from Thursday through Saturday. Amid the massive fields, Germantown Academy was well represented across both the high school and middle school divisions, with several standout performances over the three-day meet.

Middle School

Germantown Academy’s middle school teams competed on Friday, April 24, in the Philadelphia Area Private & Charter School 4x100 relays.

The boys team of Dez M. '30, Abraham D. '30, Roman P. '30, and Bernard H. '30 finished fourth in their race with a time of 48.53. The girls team of Camille M. '30, Kensi W. '30, Morgan E. '31, and Brynn C. '30 placed fifth in 52.71.

High School

Germantown Academy entered both boys and girls teams in the 4x100 and 4x400 relays. Layla Gentile '26 qualified for the girls shot put but was unable to compete due to injury.

Competition began Thursday, April 23, with the Girls 4x100. Ava Hudson '29, Myree Jean-Brian '27, Jocelyn Germain '28, and Piper Loney '27 opened the meet by finishing third in their heat in 49.66.

Later in the day, the 4x400 relay team of Emma Seckinger '27, Germain, Loney, and Nieve Keitel '27 delivered a record-breaking performance. The quartet placed second in their heat with a personal-best time of 3:55.09, breaking the previous school record by six seconds. That result qualified them for the High School Girls 4x400 Philadelphia Area final on Friday, April 24, where Loney, Germain, Jean-Brian, and Keitel ran 3:59.96 to place eighth.

Also on Friday, the boys 4x100 team of Quinn Braca '27, Jason Wilson '28, Josh Cain '26, and Jet Dickerson '26 finished second in their heat behind East Providence (RI). Their time of 43.36 broke the school record of 43.42 set in 2018.

Saturday featured the girls racewalk and boys 4x400. Shyna Patel '29, the only freshman and the only Pennsylvania competitor in the High School Girls’ 5K Racewalk, turned in one of the meet’s top performances. She placed third overall in 26:14.59, setting a new GA record, the top mark in Pennsylvania, and the second-fastest time in the United States this season.

In the boys Inter-Ac 4x400, Ethan Na '26, Dickerson, Tyler Benson '27, and Wilson ran 3:28.53 to place fourth out of five teams.

Alumni

Following the high school and middle school events, Abbe Goldstein '17 competed in the Olympic Development Women’s 1500m Elite race. Goldstein placed third with a time of 4:14.77.
