Patriots Battle Hard in 139th GA/PC Day as Penn Charter Claims Cup

The first points of the 2025 GA/PC rivalry were earned three days before the main event, as the Germantown Academy golf team tied Penn Charter, 4-4. Each team entered GA/PC Day with a half-point. Lucas Albert ’26, Paul Rambo ’26, and Charlie Kelly ’29 each won their matches, while Cole Davis ’26 and Brayden Vargas ’28 tied theirs.

On the 139th GA/PC Day, the Patriots were unable to reclaim the coveted Competition Cup, falling to Penn Charter, 7-2-1.

The day opened with cross country. The boys started at 8:45 a.m., followed shortly by the girls. The boys team was edged by Penn Charter, 26-29, but Tyler Benson ’27 crossed the finish line first overall, earning GA’s first Boys Cross Country MVP since Robert DiDonato ’21 in 2020. On the girls’ side, the Patriots fell 15-48, with Nieve Keitel ’27 finishing fifth overall.

After dropping their home contest to Penn Charter on Oct. 7, 3-2, the girls soccer team earned revenge with a 1-0 win over the Quakers. Ava Hudson ’29 scored the lone goal, while goalkeeper Liv Smith ’29 recorded the shutout and was named game MVP. The boys soccer team followed, taking an early lead on a goal from Connor Harrington ’26. However, two second-half goals by Penn Charter proved decisive, as the Quakers took the point. Harrington was named MVP for GA.

The Patriots fell in both water polo and tennis. The girls water polo team lost 13-4, the boys dropped a 12-11 heartbreaker in sudden-death overtime, and the tennis team fell 5-2.

Like the girls soccer team, the field hockey squad evened its season series against Penn Charter with a 3-2 victory. Anna McVeigh ’28 opened the scoring for GA before PC tied the game. Genevieve Gajan ’26 then netted two goals, including one on a penalty stroke, to give the Patriots a lead they would not relinquish. Gajan and Cece Durkin ’27 were named co-MVPs.

The final event of the day, the longest continuous prep school football rivalry in the country, ended in a 14-10 win for Penn Charter. Dylan Peters ’29 threw for 126 yards, while Nate Rose ’27 rushed for 54 yards and a touchdown. Timmy Ginter ’26 led the GA defense with 14 tackles.
