Germantown Academy Programs Prepare for PAISAA Tournament

FORT WASHINGTON -- On May 15, seeding for the Pennsylvania Independent Schools Athletic Association tournaments were released. Four Germantown Academy teams --baseball, girls lacrosse, track & field and softball -- will be competing in Pennsylvania Independent Schools Athletic Association events with baseball, softball and girls lacrosse all having earned the right to host their games on May 19. Track is set to compete at PAISAA Championships at Malvern Prep on May 20.

Softball

After making it to the Semifinal Round in their first-ever PAISAA Tournament a year ago, the Patriots enter the 2023 tournament as the No. 2 seed. GA ended the season on a three-game winning streak, including an 8-2 result over the previously-undefeated Inter-Ac League Champions Episcopal Academy on the last day of the regular season. The Patriots finished the season second in the Inter-Ac with an 8-2 league record. On the year, GA has scored 160 runs while surrendering only 64. In addition, the team has allowed two or less runs seven times this season.

The Patriots will face the winner of the contest between Friends Select School and Mercersburg Academy.

Girls Lacrosse

GA finished the regular season with a 12-8 overall record and a 3-7 mark in the Inter-Ac League and earned the No. 4 seed in the PAISAA Tournament. The Patriots are slated to face off against The Hill School, an opponent that they defeated 18-11 on May 3. GA has recorded 244 goals this year with an average of 12 goals per game.

Hill comes into the game with a 6-11-1 overall record and a 3-2 mark in the Mid-Atlantic Prep League. They are 1-4 against Inter-Ac opponents, including a loss to Springside Chestnut Hill Academy on May 17.

Baseball

The Patriots earned the No. 8 seed after they finished their first season under Head Coach John Bernhardt with a 12-14 overall record and a 2-8 mark in the Inter-Ac League. GA picked up a 12-4 win over Hill School to end the regular season. They team is slated to face off against No. 9 Westtown School, a group they last faced in April of 2022, a contest GA took 20-2.

GA and Westtown had five common opponents in 2023 -- The Haverford School, The Hill School, Shipley, Friends' Central, and Episcopal Academy. The Patriots went 4-1 in those contests, while the Moose went 2-3.

Track & Field

The Patriots earned top marks in the Boys and Girls Pole Vault, Girls Discus, and Girls Shot Put at Inter-Ac Championships, but will face much more competition at PAISAA with over 20 teams set to attend. In total, GA had 34 top-six finishes at league championships.
