Germantown Academy Director of Athletics Tim Ginter has named Dylan Alton as the new head coach of the Varsity Wrestling program.

“We are excited to welcome Dylan Alton to Germantown Academy as our new head wrestling coach,” Ginter said. “Dylan's accomplishments as a wrestler and coach speak for themselves. From competing as an All-American and national champion at Penn State to coaching at West Point, Rider University, and through his own successful wrestling club, he has demonstrated a commitment to excellence and athlete development."

Alton arrives at Germantown Academy with an extensive wrestling résumé that spans the youth, collegiate, and national levels. Since 2018, he has operated Alton Wrestling Club in the Greater Philadelphia area, providing private instruction and coaching athletes in folkstyle, freestyle, and Greco-Roman wrestling. Through his club, Alton has helped develop numerous state champions, national champions, and world-level competitors.

Prior to founding Alton Wrestling Club, Alton served as an assistant coach at Rider University during the 2017-18 season, where he designed practice plans, conducted film study sessions, and helped student-athletes maximize their performance on the mat. Before Rider, he spent two years as an assistant coach at the United States Military Academy at West Point. During his tenure, Army qualified nine wrestlers for the NCAA Championships, including five qualifiers in 2015 and four more in 2016. He also played a significant role in recruiting, practice planning, fundraising, and team operations.

"Here at GA, we strive for excellence both on and off the mat as student-athletes,” Alton said. “As we pursue that standard, we will continue to compete with fierce determination, respect, and sportsmanship while taking pride in representing the GA community and wearing the Patriot singlet."

As a competitor, Alton compiled an impressive list of accomplishments at both the high school and collegiate levels. A three-time PIAA State Champion and four-time Fargo National Champion in freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling, he continued his success at Penn State University under legendary coach Cael Sanderson. During his collegiate career, Alton helped the Nittany Lions capture four consecutive NCAA team championships, earned All-America honors with a third-place finish at the 2012 NCAA Championships, and qualified for three NCAA Championships.

Alton takes over a program that enjoyed significant success last season, with the Patriots placing second in the Inter-Ac, fourth at the Pennsylvania Independent Schools Wrestling Tournament (PAISWT), and 11th at the National Prep Championships.
