FORT WASHINGTON, PA -- Germantown Academy Director of Athletics Tim Ginter has announced the hiring of Diane Lieber Campbell as the new head coach of field hockey. Campbell will provide general oversight to the entire 6-12 field hockey vertically aligned program.
“We are excited to welcome Coach Diane Campbell to lead the GA field hockey program,” Ginter said. “Throughout the interview process, she not only impressed the search committee with her vision for the program, but she was also able to make an immediate connection with the players. Diane’s addition to the department and school community will be a positive one and I am already looking forward to seeing her in action this fall.”
Campbell is a highly experienced field hockey coach for the Field Hockey Sports Club (FSC) Falcons. Her coaching experience includes a long tenure at her alma mater, Bishop McDevitt High School, where she served as an assistant coach from 2001-17 before taking over as head coach in 2018 and leading the program until the school's closure in 2021.
“I can't wait to share my experiences and insights with the incredible community at GA,” Campbell said. “I’m excited to start helping student-athletes unlock their full potential and achieve their goals.”
Campbell was a standout field hockey player at McDevitt, winning Most Improved Player and MVP honors during her career as a Royal Lancer. She earned her bachelor’s in psychology from Sacred Heart University, where she excelled in field hockey from 1996-2001. She also earned a master’s degree in special education from Arcadia University.
After graduating from SHU, Campbell coached at various organizations, including the Glenside Youth Athletic League, where she has served as the director and head coach for their field hockey program since 2015. She has also coached the St. Luke's CYO field hockey program in Glenside since 2021. In addition to her youth coaching experience, Campbell took on a volunteer assistant coach position with the Northeast High School field hockey team. In addition to coaching, Campbell plays recreational field hockey with the Philadelphia Field Hockey Association.
GA’s new coach will inherit a team that went 8-13 overall and 3-8 in Inter-Ac League competitions in 2023. Campbell looks forward to the return of eight student-athletes from last year’s roster.
