Boys Tennis: Germantown Academy Repeats as Inter-Ac League Co-Champions

PHILADELPHIA -- Following up on a historic season can be an intimidating and daunting task for some teams, but not for the racquetmen of Germantown Academy. One season after claiming a share of the Inter-Ac League title for the first time since 1986, the Patriots repeated the feat by defeating arch-rival Penn Charter 5-2 on May 11. The win was the ninth straight for GA, who repeats as league champions for the first time since doing so in 1985 and 1986.

The Patriots started the season on a high note by earning an early league win over Springside Chestnut Hill Academy. However, the team hit a two-match losing skid, including one to the team they split the title with a season ago -- The Haverford School. Unable to afford a loss in league play for the remainder of the season, the Patriots navigated the remainder of the schedule flawlessly, even avenging the loss to the Fords to split the season series.

In addition to the league title, this season marked the first time in seven years that Germantown Academy had three doubles teams playing on the second day of the George Shafer Doubles Tournament at Episcopal Academy. At the tournament, the team finished as the top Inter-Ac team and eighth overall.

Germantown Academy finishes the season 10-2 overall and 9-1 in league play. They will look to be a force in the Inter-Ac again next year, as they return the full team from the 2023 season.
