Bachmann & Sabag Brothers Dominate the Mat in Championship Performances

It was a weekend to remember for two sets of standout wrestling siblings, as the Bachmann brothers made waves at the Keystone State Championships and the Sabag brothers lit up the Lions of Maccabi Tournament.

Bachmann Brothers Bring Hardware Home from Keystone States

LJ Bachmann ’32 claimed the Keystone State title in the 12U 80 lbs division with a string of commanding victories. As the top seed, he opened with a 23-8 tech fall over Evan Yackey (Juniata), followed by a 10-2 major decision against Silas Bennett (Athens) and a 21-6 tech fall over Lane Harter (Bald Eagle Area) in the quarterfinals. In the semis, he edged No. 4 seed Vito Naljayan (William Allen), 6-3 and sealed the championship with a gritty 2-0 decision over Marco Plasner (Easton).

Greggy Bachmann ’35, wrestling at 10U 75 lbs, turned in an equally impressive performance, earning third place as the No. 3 seed. He opened the tournament with a dominant 13-1 major decision over Samuel Gross (Somerset), followed by a 16-1 tech fall against Maddox Gavrish (Penn Trafford). He continued his run with a 12-2 major decision over Elijah Weeks (Bellwood Antis) before falling to No. 2 seed Matthew Bly (Wyoming Area) in the semis. Greggy regrouped and secured third place with a 16-9 decision over No. 7 Dane Bova (Mars).

Sabag Brothers Sweep at Lions of Maccabi

At the Lions of Maccabi Tournament in Israel, the Sabag brothers put on a clinic in dominance.

Shai Sabag ’27 stormed through the Juniors 60 kg bracket with three straight technical falls—none of his opponents scoring a single point. He opened with a 10-0 TF in just 1:08 over Adan Magnas (Beat the Streets), followed that with a lightning-fast 28-second 10-0 TF in the semifinals over Joshua Gottesman, and capped it off with a 47-second, 10-0 tech fall over Mac Weinstein (Beat the Streets) to claim the title.

Meanwhile, Gavri Sabag ’26 was just as unstoppable in the Juniors 65.1 kg division. He made quick work of Jonah Londin with a pin in just 12 seconds in the opening round, then followed it up with another fall at 3:46 over Nikita Kozich (Israel) in Round 2 to earn his own championship.
