Softball has always brought me joy. I love the thrill of running down an impossibly deep fly ball, of rounding the bases at full speed, and of sliding into a base with my hand sneaking in just under the tag. I value the close relationships formed with teammates as we compete together, and the lessons learned from both wins and losses. As a coach now, it’s so exciting to share all of those experiences with this great group of GA student-athletes.”

Sarah ZimmermanHead Coach
On January 22, 2021, Germantown Academy Director of Athletics Tim Ginter named Sarah Zimmerman the school’s new Varsity Softball Coach. Zimmerman has served as a leader in the Patriots Softball program for the past four years and will become the head coach beginning with the 2021 season.
“After spending the last few years on staff, we are thrilled to elevate Sarah to the position of Head Softball Coach,” said Ginter. “She has an incredible work ethic that will help continue the growth of the program, and a competitive fire that we believe will get the most out of every student-athlete. We are excited to be able to elevate such an accomplished professional who not only understands but embraces the Germantown Academy philosophy of the whole student-athlete experience.”
Zimmerman is the current Middle School Academic Dean, teaches 7th Grade Life Science, and is the coordinator of the Middle School Academic Support Program. She served as the Patriots Co-Head Coach of Varsity Softball, Assistant Varsity Coach, and Head Coach of Middle School JV Softball. She has run several softball clinics for Lower and Middle School students for the GA community and beyond and also coaches Middle School Girls Tennis.
As a student-athlete, Zimmerman was starting right fielder for the Pennsbury High School Falcons, who dominated the Suburban One League and made several appearances at the state tournament during her time there. A captain during her senior year, Zimmerman was a team leader in batting average and stolen bases. She was twice named to the Suburban One All-League team and went on to play NCAA Division I softball at Cornell.
Zimmerman holds a Bachelor’s degree in American Studies from Cornell, a Master’s degree in Bilingual Education from Bank Street College of Education, and a Master’s degree in Math Education from the City College of New York.
