Wrestling: Three Place at 2023 Bissell Invitational

POTTSTOWN -- Just one day after opening up Inter-Ac League competition against Episcopal Academy, Germantown Academy's wrestlers were back in action . The Patriots made the trip to Hill School to compete in the 2023 Bissell Invitational. Three student-athletes placed, while four scored for GA, who finished seventh in the team standings.

Robert Leeds '25 finished second in the 120 weight class. Leeds won his quarterfinal match by decision over Zach Glory of Gilman (6-2) before pinning Nabeel Raffe of Northfield Mount Hermon School in the Semis. In the 1st Place Match, Leeds lost by major decision (10-2) to Lukas Littleton Mascaro of Malvern Prep. 

Jack Baron '26 took third at 113. After receiving a bye in the First Round, the freshman won his Quarterfinal match over Hayden Haber of Wyoming Seminary by fall. Baron lost to Nikos Filipos of Wyoming Seminary in the Semis by decision (4-2), but won his consolation bout over Michael Holmes of West Nottingham Academy by fall to advance to the 3rd Place Match. In that bout, Baron won by fall over Haryy Kittredge of Green Farms Academy to secure his spot on the podium. 

Jacob Sasson '23 rounded out the place-winners for GA, taking fourth at 150. The senior won by fall in his first two bout, topping Suyoung Theo Yang of Peddie School in the first round and Ty Stubbs of Malvern Prep in the Quarterfinals. Sasson lost to Chris Crawford of Wyoming Seminary in the Semis, but won his consolation match over Hayden Shirk of Mercersburg Academy by decision (3-1). Sasson dropped the 3rd Place Match to John Mairano of Northfield Mount Hermon School by decision (11-6). 

Jack Breme '26 scored seven points for the Patriots, wrestling at 144. Breme won by fall in the first round, but lost in the Quarterfinals to Hunter Sloan of Hill School. He won his first consolation over Chase Pitruzella of Gilman, but lost his second consolation match, ending his day. 

Germantown Academy returns to action with a dual meet against Inter-Ac League opponent Springside Chestnut Hill Academy on Jan. 13 at 6pm.
