BETHLEHEM -- Prior to their trip to Prep Nationals at Lehigh University, Germantown Academy's Head Wrestling Coach Solomon Fleckman said that he just hoped that his team improved on their 40th place finish from last year. The Patriots did just that, finishing 12th with 54.5 points. Behind that strong finish were the individual performances of Christopher Kim '20, Brandon Seidman '18 and Patrick Salmon '18.

Kim took fourth place in the 106 weight class and had the highest finish for the Patriots. As a freshman, Kim made it to the quarterfinals of the competition. With another year of experience under his belt, the sophomore became the first GA semi-finalist in several years, and the highest placewinner since 2012.

The only placewinner from a year ago was Seidman, who took eighth in the 113 weight class. This year, he was able to improve upon that finish, taking fifth at 120. 

"Brandon is a rare three time National Prep placewinner," Fleckman said in an email. "He placed in 2016 as a sophomore at 106 when he really weighed less than 100 pounds. Then in 2017, he placed eighth at 113 pounds, and again, was one of the lightest guys in his weight class. Then this year, he actually went up from 113 pounds to wrestle at 120. He was just a sliver away from making it to the finals."

The final placewinner for the Patriots was Salmon. The senior closed out his Germantown Academy tenure with an eighth-place finish at 195 pounds. 

The end of Prep Nationals marks the end of the season for GA wrestling. The team had a successful regular season -- losing only one dual meet -- and climbed the team ranks at the biggest competition of the year.
