Wrestling: Germantown Academy Falls in League Opener Against Episcopal Academy

FORT WASHINGTON -- Germantown Academy welcomed Episcopal Academy to the Small Gym on Jan. 6 for the first dual meet, and the first Inter-Ac League match of the season. The Patriots got out to a hot start before the Churchmen took a late lead. In the final and deciding bout, it was Episcopal Academy that came over victorious, winning the day 42-33.

GA fell behind 6-0 to start the match, but rattled off 18 straight points to take the lead. Jack Baron '26 won his bout by fall before the Patriots took back-to-back bouts by forfeit. Following a forfeit of their own, GA got back in the swing of things. Gavriel Sabag '25 won his bout by fall, Jack Breme '26 won by decision, and Jacob Sasson '23 won by fall to give the Patriots a 33-12 advantage.

However, the Churchman came storming back as the Patriots had no wrestlers available for four weight classes. Going into the 285 bout EA led, 36-33, but GA still had a chance. The bout was back-and-forth early, but EA came out on top and won by fall.

The Patriots followed the performance against Episcopal with a 7th-place showing at the 2023 Bissell Invitational. The next dual meet for GA is on Jan. 13 at Springside Chestnut Hill Academy at 6pm.
