Winter Track: GA Shines at Last Shot Invitational

FORT WASHINGTON – On Feb. 8, the throwers of Germantown Academy's winter team took to the Field House for the GA "Last Shot" Invitational. The Patriots earned top marks while competing against throwers from Central, George School, Germantown Friends, Upper Darby, and Villa Maria Academy.

Each division had two flights, with the top throwers from each flight making it into the final round. 

Led by Gavin Fountain '24, GA had five throwers finish in the top eight and  record points. Fountain placed first with a throw of 47-04.00, while CJ Mersky '24 took second with a 46-00.00 throw. Mario Toscano '24 (42-04.00), Zach Kniese '25 (38-08.00), and Ansh Kakadia '24 (37-07.00) rounded out the scoring throwers for GA. Sebastian Cortes '24, Jet Dickerson '26, Jonah Hunt '25, and Zach Zighelboim '26 also recorded marks at the competition.

On the girls side, GA had three throwers finish in the top eight and score points. Layla Gentile '25 finished fourth overall with a throw of 31-06.00, while Kate Stone '23 and Caitlin Lozano '24 took sixth and seventh, with throws of 28-00.00 and 27-09.00, respectively. Brynn Sweeney '26 rounded out the top-10 throwers, recording a 25-10.00 throw. Farihah Kemp '25, Tati King '24, Melinda Amorosi '23 and Lilly Houston '25 also recorded throws. 

Members of the GA winter track teams will be in action on Feb. 11 when they compete at the Pennsylvania Track & Field Coaches Association Indoor Track Carnival at Lehigh University.
