Volleyball: Patriots Fall to Notre Dame in PAISAA Championship

BRYN MAWR -- Twice during the regular season the girls volleyball teams of Germantown Academy and Notre Dame De Namur have played each other. Both of those matches resulted in wins for the Patriots, with one going a full five sets.

The third meeting between the two teams took place in the final match of the Pennsylvania Independent Schools Athletic Association on Nov. 4. Like the previous two matches, the action was back and forth with both teams giving everything they had to earn a point. Unlike the other matches, Notre Dame came out on top, winning 3-0 (25-20, 25-22, 25-19).

Notre Dame got out to an early 4-1 lead in the first set, but GA was able to even the score at 4-4. Later, with the set tied at 14, the Irish made their move. Notre Dame pulled ahead by as many as seven points to earn the win.

GA trailed 18-12 in the second set before tying things at 20. However, Notre Dame again emerged from the set, 25-22.

Down two sets to none, the Patriots did what they could to stay in the match.

They opened the third set with a run of their own, leading 5-0. While the advantage lessened, GA still remained ahead in the set until the Irish tied it at 14. They briefly took the lead, 18-15, but the Patriots scored three straight points to even the score.

Ultimately, Notre Dame was able to pull away, outscoring GA 7-1 from that point on. The Patriots finished the season as PAISAA runners up with a 24-3 overall record and an 8-0 mark in Inter-Ac League play.
