Volleyball: Patriots Clinch Inter-Ac Title, Keep Rolling

FORT WASHINGTON -- For the first time since the 2008-09 season, the Germantown Academy volleyball team is in sole possession of the Inter-Ac League title. By sweeping the season series against Academy of Notre Dame on Oct. 12 with a 3-2 win, the Patriots moved to 6-0 in league play and won the title outright.

Germantown Academy took the first two sets 25-15 and 25-21, but the Irish came storming back and won the third and fourth sets, 25-17. In the deciding set, the Patriots came out on top, 16-14. GA tallied 18 aces against Notre Dame -- the most against any league opponent this season -- and 44 kills.

They kept that momentum rolling against SCH, winning 25-20, 25-19, and 25-9. Caroline Smith '25 led the way with 10 kills, while Kaitlin Pokorny '24 had 7. Liv Reynolds '25 recorded five aces for the Patriots, with Angie Wang '24 tallying six digs.

"After losing the Pennsylvania Independent Schools Athletic Association (PAISAA) semi-final in five sets last season, the team was determined to build on that late season success and turning into a successful 2022," Dougherty said. "The girls worked hard all off season and came back looking to make a statement. Our first goal was to win the Inter-Ac, which we have accomplished."

Dougherty continued to say that the team has been determined all year to end the eight-year PAISAA streak by Notre Dame and start one of their own. Before they can do that however, GA has four contests to play in the regular season. The Patriots start that stretch against Baldwin School on Oct. 18 at 5 pm.
