Swimming & Diving Opens Dual-Meet Season with Victories Over Lawrenceville

The girls and boys swimming and diving teams earned big victories over Lawrenceville to open the dual meet season at the GA pool on December 7. On the girls side, GA won, 146-40, while the boys won, 112-71.

Highlights from the girls meet include Taylor Grimley '24 setting a new pool record in the 100 Butterfly (former record holder: Teresa Crippen 2007) with a time of 54.97 and then was a member of the 200 Free Relay that also set a new pool record with Emily Hamill '25, Karly Boles '25, Grimley, and Sarah Freeman '25 (former record was held by D. Groff, V. Davis, K. Bunting, J Eberwein of GA, 1994) with a time of 1:35.57.

Emily Hamill '25 won the 200 Freestyle and 100 Freestyle and was also a member of the winning 200 Free and 400 Free Relays.

Arina Vorobyeva '25 won the 200 IM and 500 Freestyle and was also a member of the winning 400 Free Relay.

Grimley also won the 50 Freestyle and 100 Butterfly, and was a member of the winning 200 Medley and 400 Free Relays.

Boles won the 100 Backstroke and was a member of the winning 200 Medley and 200 Free Relays.

Eliza Meth '23 won the 100 Breaststroke and was a member of the winning 400 Free Relay.

Libby Brewer '25 won the 1-meter diving competition.

 

The boys highlights include senior Jack Maketa '22 setting a new school AND new pool record in the 100 Butterfly (48.60) and 100 Backstroke (49.67). The 100 Butterfly school record was held by Ryan Smith from 2001, and the pool record by P. Park of Peddie. The 100 Backstroke school record was held by Guy Yimsomruay from 1998 and the pool record was held by J. Webb of Penn Charter from 1992.  

Maketa then joined the 200 Medley Relay with Landon D’Ariano '24, Brandon Fleck '25, and JJ Freeman '23 to tie the school record and break the pool record with a time of 1:33.90. The school record the team tied is from 1990 and the pool record the team broke was held by A. Zhou, L. D’Ariano, J. Maketa, and J. Freeman of GA from 2021.

Henry Morrissey '22 won the 200 Freestyle and 500 Freestyle and was a member of the winning 200 Freestyle and 400 Freestyle relays.

Freeman also won the 50 Freestyle and 100 Freestyle and was a member of the winning 200 Medley and 200 Freestyle relays.

D’Ariano won the 200 IM and 100 Breaststroke and was a member of the winning 200 Medley and 200 Freestyle relays.

Brendan Hodgens won the 1-meter diving competition.

GA continues the dual-meet season at Penn Charter on December 14.
