Swimming and Diving: GAAC Summer Notebook
Germantown Academy swimmers have had a busy summer competing for Germantown Academy's Aquatic Club. Here are a few of the highlights thus far:
 

 

  • At the 2021 Eastern Zone Open Water Championships at Lake Quassapaug in Middlebury, Connecticut, Ainsley B. '28 placed third overall in the 11-12 girls age group.

 

  • Several GA students, representing GAAC, recently participated in the Middle Atlantic Junior Olympics (ages 14 & under) in Sewell, New Jersey.  The following GA students placed in the Top 3:
     
    • Karly Boles '25
      • 2nd place in the 100 and 200 meter backstroke
      • 3rd place in the 50 meter freestyle
         
    • Sarah Freeman '25
      • 2nd place in the 1,500 meter freestyle
      • 3rd place in the 400 meter freestyle
         
    • Emily Hamill '25
      • 1st place in the 200 meter freestyle (setting a NEW meet record)
      • 2nd place in the 50 meter freestyle, 100 meter freestyle, 400 meter freestyle
      • 3rd place in the 100 and 200 meter backstroke
         
    • Arina Vorobyeva '25
      • 1st place in the 400 meter freestyle and the 1,500 meter freestyle
      • 2nd place in the 200 meter freestyle, 400 IM
      • 3rd place in the 100 meter freestyle
         
    • The 800-meter freestyle relay of Arina Vorobyeva '25, Karly Boles '25, Sarah Freeman '25, and Emily Hamill '25 took first place. The same foursome also won the 400 meter freestyle relay.
       
    • The foursome of Karly Boles '25, Sophia DeCardona '25, Arina Vorobyeva '25, and Emily Hamill '25 took third place.
       
    • Sophia S.'27 was a member of the 11-12 girls 400 Medley Relay that placed second overall.
       
    • Other GA students that participated in the meet were: Ainsley B. '28, Emerson C. '27, Jack G. '26, Jordan Seidman '25, Elsa S. '26, and Sophia S. '27.
       
    • Overall, GAAC placed 4th out of 41 teams.
       
  • Finally, numerous GA students have qualified for the 2021 National Club Swimming Association Summer Championships (August 10-14) at the Huntsville Aquatic Center in Huntsville, Alabama. Those attending are: Lilly Acker '22, Karly Boles '25, Landon D'Ariano '24, Sophia DeCardona '25, J.J. Freeman '23, Sarah Freeman '25, Taylor Grimley '24, Emily Hamill '25, Griffin Henze '21, Jack Maketa '22, Henry Morrissey '22, Patrick O’Hara '21, Nicole Ranile '22, Arina Vorobyeva '25, and Andy Zhou '24.

GAAC will be hosting an Open House on Thursday, September 2 from 6-8 pm.  This event is for new and returning members.  New members should come in their suits so that they can complete an in-water evaluation. More details to come.
