Softball: Sannicandro Helps Lead GA Over Mercersburg, Patriots Head to Shipley

FORT WASHINGTON -- It has been at least eight years since Germantown Academy's softball team appeared in the Pennsylvania Independent Schools Athletic Association Tournament, but do not tell the Patriots. Seeded No. 3 in the state competition, GA earned their first win of the tournament on May 20 over visiting Mercersburg Academy, 11-2.

The Patriots were led by Ang Sannicandro '22 on both sides, who put together an incredible all-around game. The senior got the start in the circle and responded with a complete game, but she also recorded a single, triple and her first-ever home run at GA to power the Patriot offense with seven runs batted in.

Alex Johnson '25 recorded two runs during the game, while also drawing a walk and getting a hit and an RBI. Maggie Burkholder '25 helped defensively when she snared a fly ball in right field.

With the win, GA advances to the PAISAA Semifinal against Shipley School. The Gators were the Friends Schools League Champions this season with an overall record of 12-1 and a league.
