Softball: Patriots Sweep Season Series Against Baldwin

FORT WASHINGTON -- Germantown Academy's first game of the season came on April 4 in the form of a 5-1 win against Inter-Ac League foe Baldwin School, and although the score was different when the two teams met for the second go around, the result was the same. The Patriots racked up 12 runs against the Bears when they came to Fort Washington on May 16, just a few days after scoring 17 on Hill, the sweep the season series and earn another league win.

Clarissa Smith '23 got the start in the circle for GA and responded with an eight-strikeout complete game. She pitched the Patriots out of a jam in the first inning when Baldwin had loaded the bases with no outs. However, the senior did not waiver and GA escaped the inning unscathed.

It was not until the bottom of the second that the Patriots got things going offensively, but once they did, it could not be shut off. Kayleigh Howard '23, Smith, Zoey Clark '26, Alex Johnson '25, and Jazziah Manning '25 all record a RBI in the inning as the Patriots batted around the order and took a 5-0 lead. The Bears scored the next three runs of the game, but GA busted the contest open in the bottom of the fifth to put things out of reach.

Ava Fiumara '26 started the inning with a single, but quickly scored after stealing second, third, and home. Not to be outdone by her teammate's stellar play, Walton smashed a ball over the fence for a three-run home run. Abigail Marino '23 crossed home later in the inning, as did Liv Reynolds '25, to make the score 11-3 in favor of GA. Both teams tacked on a run in the final innings, but the Patriots' lead was safe.

GA moves to 7-2 in league play. They will host Episcopal Academy on May 16 at 4pm for the final contest before the Pennsylvania Independent Schools Athletic Association tournament.
