Samuel Kohm '22 Selected for USA Swimming Eastern Zone Select Camp

Rising freshman Samuel Kohm '22 was chosen for the USA Swimming Eastern Zone Select Camp that took place June 7-10, 2018 at the University of Virginia.

"I was very excited for Sammy to have this opportunity," said Jeff Thompson, Head Swimming Coach at Germantown Academy. "He has worked incredibly hard, and this camp will serve as more motivation for him and his teammates. This honor reflects the hard work he’s put into training this year and is the first step toward his life-long dream of swimming in the 2020 Olympic Trials."

During the four-day camp, Kohm participated in five long course workouts and learned from professionals about post-race recovery, psychological training skills, nutrition, and race strategy.

"I had a fantastic time at the Eastern Zone Select Camp," Kohm said. "I met a lot of great people, learned more about swimming and nutrition, and had the opportunity to ask my zone select camp coaches a lot of questions about how I may become a better swimmer and teammate. I'm honored to have had the opportunity to represent GA and GAAC at the camp, and lucky to have great coaches at GA who have helped me achieve my success thus far in swimming. I look forward to attending USA camps in the future."

Kohm, who also swims for Germantown Academy Aquatic Club (GAAC), was one of 56 top USA Swimming athletes in the Eastern Zone – 28 male and 28 female – selected for the camp. Swimmers are selected from the SWIMS database of top times during the 2017 qualifying period, where the fastest athlete in each event, ranging from age 12 to 13 for girls and 13 to 14 for boys are invited to the camp.
