Girls Track & Field: Patriots Finish Third at League Championships

 

FORT WASHINGTON -- Germantown Academy hosted the Inter-Ac League Track & Field Championships on May 14. Field events began in the morning before conceding to events on the track during the afternoon. Despite rainy weather, the Patriots still put up solid results and at the end of the day took third with 81 points.

Fore Abinusawa '22 capped off her final League Championships in stellar fashion, winning both the Girls 100m Dash and 200m Dash. In the 200, Abinusawa went 24.36, breaking her old league record of 24.47 and setting a new standard. The senior also took the 100 with a time of 11.81. Alex Goodridge '22 finished seventh in the 100 with a time of 13.13, while Ella Metro '23 took ninth with a time of 13.26. 

Fiona McKenna '23 placed second in the Girls 100 Hurdles with a time of 15.56. McKenna also placed sixth in the Girls Long Jump with a 15-04.50 leap. Caitlin Lozano '24 took second in the Girls Discus by throwing 89-07. 

In total, the Patriots had four throwers record top-10 finishes in the shot put, led by Alyssa DePaul '24 and her 29-05.50 toss. McKenna took fourth with a 29-02.00 throw, while Lozano took eighth (25-05.50) and Emma Merrill '24 finished ninth (23-11.50). GA also had five throwers in the top-10 for the Girls Discus, led by Lozano, but rounded out by DePaul, Merrill, Melinda Amorosi '23 and Farihah Kemp '25 taking third, fifth, sixth and eighth, respectively. 

Like many of her teammates, Juli Gonzalez '22 competed in multiple events, running in both the Girls 800 and 1600 and taking third in both. The senior ran the events in 2:23.04 and 5:17.02, respectively. Goodridge '22 finished third in the Girls Long Jump, clearing 16-04.50. Ella Metro '23 took fifth with a 15-08.00 jump and Sydney Cameron '22 took ninth with a jump of 14-11.50. 

Aja McBride '23 finished fourth in the Girls High Jump with a 4-08.00 jump, and took ninth in the Girls 200 by going 27.52. Bri O'Hara '22 finished fifth in the Girls 400 with a time of 1:00.32. Kayla D'Eletto '23 took seventh in the 1600 by running 5:38.14.

GA took second in the Girls 4x100 Relay as McBride, Cameron, Goodridge and Abinusawa finished with a time of 50.35. O'Hara, Gonzalez, Goodridge and Cameron took fourth in the 4x400 with a time of 4:18.75, while Carolyn Connolly '23, Abby Durkin '24, D'Eletto and Lana Karpf '23 took fourth in the 4x800 with a time of 10:53.75.

The Patriots will be back in action on May 21 for the Pennsylvania Independent Schools Athletic Association Track & Field Championships at Malvern Prep.
