Girls Tennis Takes Home Win over PC Two Days Later

During the annual GA/PC Day, almost every occasion began and ended on Saturday, November 13. On the tennis courts, however, a rain wave just after noon led to the suspension of several matches.

Play had to resume the following Monday for the 3-game finals, and with a win in those contests, GA came away with a 4-3 victory.

The Patriots were racing with a new head coach this fall, Jon Freeman. When the recent match at Penn Charter was suspended on November 13, GA was in a strong position with wins in three of the four contests that had been completed.

In the third individual flight, Ava Toren '23 earned a 6-2, 6-3 victory over compatriot Grace Jordan-Weinstein of Penn Charter. The Patriots also earned a pair of doubles victories. On the third flight, Lucy Harobin '22 and Saanvi Bhatia '22 beat Marissa Bruckner and Bridgette Gold, 7-6, 6-4. Playing the fourth doubles, Patriot seniors Alexa Baer '22 and Brooke Ashdale '22 won a tiebreaker in the 3rd set (1-6, 6-1, 10-6) opposite Leila Feldman and Ella Parke.

In the ongoing singles fight, PC’s Mariah Mays defeated Jessica Wang '25, 2-6, 6-2, 10-8, and in doubles, Maya Check and Karya Karabucak beat GA's Maisy Betancourt '24 and senior Riya Palkar '22, 6-0, 6-7, 10-8.

Still, the Patriots secured victory by winning the first doubles game. Grace Petersohn '24 and Ellee Segal '23 won 7-5, 3-6, 10-8 over Penn Charter sophomores Frances Guenther and Savannah Abernathy.
