Girls Swimming & Diving: GA Sinks Visiting Lawrenceville School

FORT WASHINGTON -- Before winter break, Head Coach Jeff Thompson said that the swimmers and divers were going to be working hard during their time off from classes. When the Patriots hosted Lawrenceville School on Jan. 9, that hardwork paid off. 

Behind 11 first-place finishes, Germantown Academy defeated Lawrenceville, 115-68. In total, the Patriots had 21 top-three finishes.

Nicole Ranile '22 swam 1:59.55 and 5:14.88 in the 200 Freestyle and 500 Freestyle, respectively, placing first in each event. Emily Thompson '19 took first in the 200 IM with a time of 2:13.02 and took second in the 100 Freestyle with a time of 56.21.

Emma Atkinson '20 took first in the 50 Freestyle and 100 Butterfly with times of 24.12 and 57.48, respectively. Erin Merke '19 won the 100 Backstroke with a time of 1:03.08 and also took third in the 100 Freestyle with a time of 56.31. Emily Morrissey '19 swam the 100 Breaststroke in 1:09.75, taking first place. Morrissey also took second in the 50 Freestyle in 25.48.

The 200 Medley Relay (1:52.61), 200 Freestyle Relay (1:41.94) and 400 Freestyle Relay (3:47.31) all finished in first. 

GA took the top-two spots in the 1 Meter Dive thanks to Lyndsea Landmesser '22 and Molly Thompson '22. Landmesser took first by scoring 218.40 while Thompson took second with 181.80.

Alana Andress '20 finished the 200 Freestyle in second place, swimming the event in 2:00.45. Andress also took second in the 500 Freestyle with a time of 5:17.86. Elise Smigiel '22 took third in the 200 IM (2:18.54) and the 100 Breaststroke (1:16.04). Averi Webb finished third in the 100 Backstroke with a time of 1:04.29, and GA took third in the 400 Freestyle Relay, swimming 3:57.98.

The Patriots are now 4-0 in dual meets on the season. Their next competition comes on Jan. 12 at The Hill School.
