LANCASTER -- After a successful first day at Eastern Interscholastic Swimming Championships, Germantown Academy's girls swimming team returned to the pool on Saturday for day two. The Patriots matched their success from the previous day, and parlayed those performances into a fifth place team finish. (PHOTOS)

Emma Atkinson '20 and Erin Merke '19 both competed in the A Final of the 100 freestyle. Atkinson took first with a time of 50.26, while Merke finished fourth with a 52.08.

"It's great seeing multiple GA caps in the pool," Head Coach Jeff Thompson said. "Those girls are good for each other, they motivate each other. I wish they could've tied for first, that would've been awesome. That was pretty cool."

In the 500 freestyle, Emily Thompson brought home sixth place with a time of 5:11.67. Thompson, Merke, Atkinson and Alana Andress '20 were all part of the 400 freestyle relay team that placed first in the finals. The group swam a 3:28.58.

In the B Final of the 100 freestyle, Riley Gobora '18 took sixth with a time of 54.77. For diving, Penelope Fleckman '21 finished 11th with 280.45 points.

GA finished Easterns as the fifth best team with a total of 438 points. After the weekend's events concluded, Thompson spoke about the future of the team.

"We have three young ladies coming in next year and some divers as well," Thompson said. "The future looks really, really good. I just want to continue developing swimmers."
