Girls Soccer: Overtime Goal Lifts Patriots Over EA

By: Joe Cicchino - Sports Information Assistant

FORT WASHINGTON -- Germantown Academy's girls soccer team hosted Episcopal Academy on Sept. 14 for its first Inter-Ac League game of the year. Although it took extra time, the Patriots came away with a 2-1 victory.

The game was in a scoreless draw after the first half, but that would change in the second. The Churchwomen capitalized on a misplayed ball deep in GA's defensive third to go up 1-0. However, the lead would not last long.

Two minutes later, the Patriots earned a corner kick. Kiley Kergides '20 took the corner, but it was Ally Clark '19 who found the ball in traffic and put it in the back of the net with 12:27 left in regulation.

The score remained locked at one for the remainder of the game as well as the first overtime. Then, with 2:58 left in the second overtime, Kergides again served in a corner, this time hooking up with Lily Funk '22 for the game-winning goal.

GA is now 2-2-0 on the season and 1-0 in Inter-Ac play. They continue league competition when they visit Springside Chestnut Hill Academy on Sept. 21 at 4:00 p.m. It is Germantown Academy's first away game since Aug. 29.
