Girls Basketball: Patriots Win in Low Scoring Affair

By: Joe Cicchino - Sports Information Assistant

VILLANOVA -- In their two previous games this season in which they scored under 50 points, the Germantown Academy girls basketball team was 0-2. On Feb. 12, the team was able to buck that trend, pulling out a win in a 44-31 contest against Academy of Notre Dame de Namur.

Against the Irish, it took a while for the Patriots to get their offense up and running. The team could only manage to score four points in the first quarter, but bounced back with 10 in the second. Still, GA found themselves trailing by a point at halftime.

After the break, the Patriots got the scoring run that they had been searching for in the first half. GA exploded for 19 points compared to the Irish's nine in the third frame, and carried that offense into the fourth. In the final quarter the Patriots outscored Notre Dame 11-9 and sealed their win.

Piloting the offense for GA was Elle Stauffer '20, who had 10 points and five rebounds. Rachel Balzer '19 added nine points, while Alexa Naessens '19 and Jaye Haynes '20 both had eight. In addition to her scoring, Naessens talled 10 rebounds.

The Patriots will close out the regular season on Tuesday at 3:45 p.m. against Episcopal Academy. With a win, GA would finish 12-0 in the Inter-Ac League for the seventh time since the 2006-2007 season.
