FORT WASHINGTON -- After running through the Inter-Ac League regular season slate, Germantown Academy clinched the No. 1 seed and a first round bye in the Pennsylvania Independent School Athletic Association basketball tournament. On Feb. 17, the Patriots were back on the court, facing off against William Penn Charter in the second round of the tournament.

Just like the previous two contests, the Quakers proved to be no match for GA. The Patriots came away from the game with a 60-44 victory.

After one half of play, GA held a 33-23 lead over Penn Charter. A 17 point third quarter helped expand that lead. In the final frame the Patriots were actually outscored by their opponent, but the early deficit was too much for PC to overcome. 

Rachel Balzer '19 was the catalyst for the GA offense in the game. The junior led all scorers with 18 points and did all of her work from behind the three-point line. The 18 point outburst is Balzer's highest total since she scored 21 against Friends' Central on Dec. 2. 

While Balzer led the way offensively, Elle Stauffer '20 and Jaye Haynes '20 also contributed solid numbers. Stauffer tallied 17 points and Haynes chipped in 12. Catherine Polisano '18 had seven points, but got other players involved, evident in her seven assists. 

The Patriots will now face off against Shipley School in the PAISAA Semifinals on Feb. 23 at Neumann College. GA defeated Shipley 53-45 earlier this season. The game will be played at 6:30 p.m.
