Germantown Academy Names Rachel Cohen Interim Varsity Girls Tennis Head Coach

Fort Washington, PA – Germantown Academy Director of Athletics Josh MacArthur has announced the hiring of Rachel Cohen as the new Interim Head Coach of Upper School Varsity Girls Tennis.

“I’m pleased to welcome Rachel Cohen to the GA community,” said MacArthur. “I have every confidence that she will make an immediate impact on our program. With the unplanned departure of Coach Gargullo, we were incredibly fortunate to identify someone of Rachel’s caliber right in our backyard. I’m looking forward to working with Rachel as she works to develop our student-athletes and strengthen our program.”

Cohen, who was certified by the Professional Tennis Registry, currently serves as a tennis pro at Upper Dublin Sports Center (UDSC) where she is also the co-director of the adult women’s program. At UDSC, she assists with the high-performance junior clinics and match play. She also successfully created an evening women’s clinic for all levels. Prior to working at UDSC, Cohen served as a pro at Philmont Country Club where she worked with the adult women’s clinics.

As a player, Cohen was a scholarship athlete at East Carolina University. She competed in the 1995 NCAA Invitational Doubles Tournament. Most recently, she was ranked No. 11 in the nation in Women’s 35+ Doubles. She has also competed in the United States Tennis Association Nationals and was a three-time 10.0 Mixed Doubles competitor.

“Having competed scholastically, I am excited to apply my knowledge and experience to help our student athletes thrive individually and as a team,” said Cohen.

Last season, the Patriots went 5-7 overall (3-4 Inter-Ac League), with Tiffany Zhong '20 and Sarah Rojas '21 both earning All-League honors. They will join eight other student-athletes returning this fall to play for Coach Cohen.
