Germantown Academy Names Jay Foster Interim Varsity Girls Lacrosse Head Coach

FORT WASHINGTON – Germantown Academy Athletic Director Tim Ginter has announced the hiring of Albert “Jay” Foster Jr. as the Girls Lacrosse Interim Head Coach.

“We are fortunate to have found Jay Foster to lead our girls lacrosse program this spring,” Ginter said. “We believe Jay’s experience and wealth of knowledge will help further the growth of the program. We can’t wait for him to get started and begin preparing the players for the 2022 season.”

Albert "Jay" Foster Jr. has been named the Interim Varsity Girls Lacrosse Head Coach.

Foster comes to Fort Washington with an extensive coaching and playing background. He presently serves on the coaching staff of The Dodging and Shooting Academy at Steelyard Sports in Conshohocken, where he is responsible for practice planning, and providing instruction on dodging, shooting, and small area games. He also has experience as an offensive assistant coach for Upper Dublin’s varsity boys lacrosse team.

“It’s an exciting day and I’m thrilled to be joining Patriots girls lacrosse,” Foster said. “I look forward to starting a journey that student-athletes and the GA community can take pride in. A special thank you to Head of School Rich Schellhas and Athletic Director Tim Ginter. I am both humbled and honored to accept this position and am excited about spearheading the vision and embracing the challenges ahead.”

Foster previously served as a skills instructor, assistant coach, and head coach of youth teams with Upper Dublin Lacrosse Club. He served as the Head Coach of NXT/Bandits Lacrosse Club (2009-13), Philly Elite LB3 Lacrosse Club (2013-15) and Crooked Crosse Girls Lacrosse Club (2018). He was also the player-coach for Burnside Lacrosse Club in Adelaide, South Australia from 1980-85. Previously he has been a coach at Upper Dublin High School and the Australian College of Applied Education.

As a student-athlete, Foster starred at Abington High School where he earned USILA All-American, Pennsylvania All-State, and All-Public Division League honors. Foster ended his career at Abington with 210 career points and is a member of the school’s Hall of Fame. He also was named All-Area Player of the Decade by Times Chronicle and received an invitation to team tryouts from the Philadelphia Wings.

Following his impressive high school years, Foster went on to shine at Washington and Lee University where he started for three years and was the team’s fourth highest scorer from 1978-80. During his time, The Generals made three trips to the NCAA Division I National Championship Tournament and were South Atlantic Conference Champions in 1977. After college, Foster played internationally in Australia, winning National Player of the Year (1981) and All-Australian for Attack and Midfield. The team appeared in the National Championship from 1981-85, winning it all in 1983. He was South Australia’s MVP in the National Championship Tournament thrice and the runner up for South Australia’s Club League MVP four times.

The Patriots graduated five players from the 2021 team that went 10-12. Foster will have at least 20 returning letterwinners and numerous freshmen when preseason begins next month.
