CORNING, NY -- Germantown Academy Girls Cross Country Coach Diane Neubauer achieved a remarkable feat during the 43rd Guthrie Wineglass Marathon by winning the women's marathon and setting a new course record with a time of 2 hours, 42 minutes, 44 seconds. Neubauer's finish surpassed the previous record of 2:44:35, set in 2018 by Brianna Deming.
Though Neubauer had previously won a timed COVID marathon, Sunday’s race marked her first time crossing the finish line in a major marathon event.
"I'm stoked, I really am," Neubauer said. "I'm just grateful to be here. It was an awesome course, awesome support, and I had a great training block with friends."
Neubauer, who is in her third year as Head Coach for the Patriots, competes for Liberty Track Club, based outside of Philadelphia.
"My goal was to win and set the course record," Neubauer said. "It was a tough go the last half. I don’t know if my legs just locked up, but I just thought of my kids, my team, my family, and my friends. I’m like, ‘I can get to the finish line one mile at a time.’ This was definitely for them."
