Football: Xavier Stearn '26 Sets Germantown Academy Career Passing Record

There is a Germantown Academy football record holder.

Xavier Stearn ’26 set the mark for career passing yards, and moved just one touchdown pass behind Kyle McCloskey ’17 for the most in school history in the Patriots’ contest against Springside Chestnut Hill Academy on Saturday, Oct. 19. The junior entered the game needing just 60 yards to break McCloskey’s mark of 3,891 yards and did so on the team’s second drive. Stearn finished the day 19 of 27 passing for 221 yards and two touchdowns.

“I knew I was close to the record,” Stearn said. “Kyle McCloskey came to a game last year and we talked a little bit about it, but I didn’t expect to break it. There’s been a lot of good quarterbacks and good offense before me, so I’m just excited to have set the mark.”

Stearn added that it did not sink in that he was the leading passer in 144 years of Germantown Academy football until the next day, but that he was honored to be atop the list. With three games left in the 2024 season, and his senior year still upcoming, Stearn has the chance to not only put the career passing record at GA out of reach, but to also challenge for the Inter-Ac League’s career passing record of 6,172 yards, set by Penn Charter’s Neeko Hnatkowsky.

However, Stearn is not looking ahead just yet.

“I definitely want to continue having success into my senior season,” Stearn said. “The Inter-Ac has had a ton of good quarterbacks that have played in college and the NFL, but I’m just looking forward to closing out the year strong.”

The Patriots (4-3 overall, 0-2 IAAL) travel to Episcopal Academy (2-5 overall, 0-2 IAAL) on Friday, Oct. 25 for a 7pm kickoff.
